Winds

Is there anywhere in the world where there isn't wind?

This was a big week - came in at 23 hours and 26 minutes which included two strength workouts, 15.5k yars swam, 155 miles biked, and 40.5 miles ran. I think this may be one of my biggest weeks ever, though I can't say that for sure until I look back at last year. Regardless, not only did I survive, I feel really good right now!

So after doing the 48.5 mile bike on Friday afternoon, I did a 65 mile bike- 4 mile run brick on Saturday. Went up to Auburn and back down to Folsom, with a detour to where I think World's Toughest Half might start in May. I don't know if it was my cassette (got a 11-27 last week) or that I am actually getting stronger (especially from last week's hilly hilly ride) I did not have to get into my small front ring until I was right outside of Auburn when the road gets really steep. The tailwind that I had going up probably also provided some assistance since I really felt I was cruising on the way to Auburn when usually it's a struggle. And then what goes up must come down, I had a headwind on the way back to Folsom, which made the what-usually-is-a-flight-downhill into a I-hope-I-don't-get-blown-over. Stupid crosswinds. Even though my average speed ended up just under 15mph, the fact that I felt good after the ride and that I was able to run 4 miles at a good rate (my brick runs are faster than my normal runs) makes me feel not so disheartened. And then I followed Saturday with a 15 mile run and 3500 yard swim today. The 15 mile run was last 30 minutes at tempo pace, and overall it was the fastest 15 miles I've ever run in a non-race. Good times! The swim was good too, only complaint was the wind made me really chilly in the pool.

I say this was a successful week. I now have some hope that my confidence will return.
