So working 9ish hours a day is not conducive to also being able to train 2-3 hours a day, eat, relax, and get 8 hours of sleep. Nope, doesn't work. I get up 5:25-5:45am, am at the gym between 6:10-6:30am, swim/strength train for 1-1.5 hours, at work by 8:15-8:30am. Work until 5:15-5:45, get home 5:30-6pm, run or bike or bike/run until 7:35-7:45, eat quickly, pack lunch for next day, get ready for bed, sleep. Dinner has consisted of microwaved veggies and ice cream. As a friend said, "Healthy... but not." Anyways, got to fix this... either work less or train less... or eat more at work, but I already seem to be eating all the time so I'm not sure how that's going to fly.
ANYWAYS, the Capital of Texas Triathlon was this past weekend. I raced the Olympic distance (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run). Results are as follows:
Clock Time 2:48:19
Chip Time 2:48:19
Overall Place 417 / 1442
Gender Place 93 / 570
Division Place 6 / 20
Time Back 47:08
1500M Swim Rank 463
1500M Swim Time 32:14
1500M Swim Pace 2:09/M
T1 Time 04:43
40K Bike Rank 636
40K Bike Time 1:16:10
40K Bike Pace 19.5MPH
T2 Time 02:38
10K Run Rank 288
10K Run Time 52:32
10K Run Pace 8:28/M
Not bad considering it was 80 degrees when I walked to the race at 5:30am and my wave did not go off until 7:45m. 5 minutes better than the Olympic distance I raced last September. Will give a better recap this weekend.
Week of 05/19-05/25:
Mon - 2500m swim, 6? mi run
Tues - 2500m swim, 6.4 mi run (at work), 45 min bike trainer
Weds - 1 hr strength (lifting), something bike/run I can't remember
Thurs - 2500m swim, 45 min bike/4.5 mi run
Fri - 2500m swim, 4 mi run (at work)
Sat - 16 mi bike, 1000m swim
Sun - RACE
My memory is getting bad. But it is already Thursday of the next week, which means it's almost the weekend. WHAT! It feels like it was just the weekend. The good and bad of Memorial Day I guess, but I shouldn't complain. Going to attempt the Real Ale Ride out in Blanco on Saturday - either the 65 or 80 mile route, we will see. Then hopefully a short bike and long run on Sunday. I also have to do my laundry but one of the residents of this apartment complex creeps me out and I'm afraid to go to the laundry room. Hell, right now I'm afraid to go check my mail.

Solid (and Cinnamon Rolls)
So I FINALLY had a good, high volume, relatively high intensity weekend of training. It was preceded by an eating contest against my manager (infamous for his eating talents) at Thursday lunch at an Italian buffet. I was able to tie my manager in number of plates consumed - one of few, if any, co-ops to do so. Friday I also ate a lot as I had lunch with my co-co-op and his girlfriend at a Korean/Japanese place. And then we stopped at this bakery and I had a muffin while sitting in traffic on the way back to work and I also bought a dozen cinnamon/pecan rolls. (Plus 6 more at Whole Foods because they were on sale.) Saturday morning I went to an open water swim "race" to attempt 2.4 miles in Mansfield Dam for the first time. Since it is open water, there is no resting, but there are wetsuits. Without my wetsuit I most likely would not have survived. But I made it! 1 hour 25 minutes 5 seconds got me 3rd place in the 20-29 age group. Then I drove south to Mopac/45 and did 50 miles on the bike and 3 miles on foot for a good brick. The first 16-20 miles were tough - I didn't think open water swimming would be enough to make me that sore, but luckily I was able to push through. And today I did the 360 loops twice (Arboretum to Barton Creek Mall and back) plus a little side loop onto Lost Creek Boulevard. I turned around when I saw a big downhill though since I feared if I went down then I'd have to come back up and my legs would not make it back up to the Arboretum. Then an easy swim in the pool. It was getting hot towards the end of the bike, but not horrible. I am proud to say that this is the first time I rode 360 by myself, and I did not make an bad traffic moves and I was able to survive 2 loops. CapTex is in a week, and if I can hold onto this training momentum, hopefully it will be a good race. And hopefully this damn saddle sore will go away too.
Week of 05/12 - 05/18:
Mon - 2500m swim, 8 mi run
Tues - 3000m swim, 45min trainer/6 mi run
Weds - 1 hr strength, 40min trainer/6 mi run
Thurs - 3200m swim, 8 mi run
Fri - 3000m swim, 6 mi run
Sat - 2.4 mi swim, 50 mi bike/3 mi run BRICK
Sun - 50 mi bike, 3000m swim
Adding up all my swims, I think this was my biggest week ever. Approximately 18500m swam! It was a good run week too. And it would have been an even better bike week had I not developed a painful saddle sore on Tuesday.
I start in a new group tomorrow. I am terrified.

Last Week
Week of 05/05-05/11:
Mon - 3000m swim, 8 mi run
Tues - 3000m swim, 30 min bike/6 mi run BRICK
Weds - 1 hr strength, 8 mi run
Thurs - 3000m swim, 30 mi bike
Fri - 6 mi run, 2500m swim
Sat - 48 mi bike, 3000m swim (supposed to be a 56 mi bike but I forgot my shoes)
Sun - 27 mi bike, 10 mi run, 3000m swim
So this is my last week with my current group. I'm switching to another group for the rest of the summer because it will be more likely to be able to give me a full-time offer. My current group will not have an open req for next winter, so even though I really like them, I have to move on. And at the current state of the business, I may have to completely move on. But we'll see.
Speaking of which, I wish I had graduated. I feel kind of scared to go back and in the fall and only know about 5 people. I wouldn't have survived ECE if I hadn't known a lot of people to go to for help. Congrats to everyone who survived engineering, most especially ECE.
I feel there's so much I have to say, but I don't even know how to go about expressing it. CapTexTri is in a week and a half, and then Danskin is two weeks after that. And THEN, Buffalo Springs is three weeks after!

Lots to say...
but not enough time to say it.
First off, this is the COOLEST video ever. I'm a dork, but it is very inspiring and something I will remember in all my races.

This is also a good article: For Peak Performance, 3 Is Not Better Than 1
I will summarize last week's workout and hopefully in the next few days I will be able to summarize this current week's workout and also some more thoughts. But right now I have a bio final to finish.
Week of 04/28-05/04:
Mon - 3000m swim, 8mi run
Tues - 2500m swim, 30 min bike (trainer)/6mi run BRICK
Weds - 1 hr strength, 27mi bike
Thurs - 3000m swim, 8mi run
Fri - 2500m swim, 6mi run
Sat - 58mi bike (fun ride!), 3500m swim
Sun - 1hr15min bike (trainer)/14 min run
That was approximately what happened... I can no longer remember it fully.
One more thing... I HATE hot, humid weather. This summer is going to be miserable.
