So apparently the stress caught up with me this week, along with the only drinking 1-2 bottles of fluid during 50 mile bike rides. I've had a headache since last Thursday and stomach cramps since Tuesday afternoon.
However, Tuesday night I finally did the Run Far Time Trial with a friend. I was able to average 21 mph with probably at least 7 mph winds on the 8 mile Mopac/45 route. My friend did it with me and even though she only has a road bike (no aerobars, no aero wheels) she was only .5 mph slower. It was fun though because I really like hanging out with her. And we also met Kelly Handel, a local pro who graduated from U of I.
So taper has been going well this week - swim Monday, swim/time trial Tuesday, run/short swim Wednesday, and swim/run today. Tomorrow will be a swim and then Saturday I will wake up early and do a really really short (like 15 minutes) on the trainer to just get my legs moving. Then I will drive 7 hours to Lubbock, Texas. Fun fun... I just hope my stomach cramps go away by Sunday and that my bike doesn't flat!

Well, good luck. I am busy chasing grandkids and having a great time with them, so I will miss telling you to have a great time in Lubbock. I will want to hear all about it. If you need help in Lubbock, call our son, Ross Flathouse. He works as a P.A. at Texas Tech Health Science Center (Hospital). He will take care of you. GOOD LUCK!
Great taper! you did better than I think I could have. Probably why I'm always injured :). Glad you had fun on the 50mi and the time trial. I'm totally glad I did the time trial even though I was really nervous about that 9 year old beating me :).
Talking with Kelly was really cool too. I rode with her on the Source-E ride last Friday and it was much fun.
Good luck on your race but I know you'll do great!
Informatica's got about 1300 people or something. There are only about 200-300 engineers in R&D at headquarters. And yeah the pool is outdoors and I would assume it's year round, unfortunately it's only 25 meters or so.
